ACMEZID M TABLET is a combination of Gliclazide and Metformin, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidiabetic agents. It is used in the management of diabetes mellitus when dietary measures, physical exercise, and weight loss alone are not sufficient to control blood glucose.

ACMEZID M TABLET is not recommended for use if you have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, kidney disease, or liver failure. Consult your doctor before taking it.

ACMEZID M TABLET is not recommended for use during pregnancy or in breastfeeding women. ACMEZID M TABLET is not recommended for use in children as safety and effectiveness have not been established. Consult your doctor before taking it.

The most common side effects of taking ACMEZID M TABLET are nausea, diarrhea, gastric pain, constipation, vomiting, metallic taste in the mouth, rash, pruritus, urticaria, erythema, and flushing. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

USES OF ACMEZID M TABLET

  • To manage type II diabetes mellitus

HOW ACMEZID M TABLET WORKS

ACMEZID M TABLET effectively controls blood glucose levels, where Gliclazide works by increasing the amount of insulin by stimulating the pancreas and helps control blood glucose levels. Metformin works by decreasing the production of glucose in the liver, decreasing the intestinal absorption of glucose, increasing insulin sensitivity, and allowing better glucose uptake and utilization by the body.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take ACMEZID M TABLET, preferably just before meals, during meals, or as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF ACMEZID M TABLET

COMMON

  • nausea, diarrhea, gastric pain, constipation, and vomiting
  • metallic taste in the mouth
  • rash, pruritus, urticaria, erythema, and flushing

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation

Include fiber-rich foods in your diet, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole-grain cereals, and drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly and stay active. Contact your doctor if constipation persists.

Diarrhea

Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices, to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own to treat diarrhea. Contact your doctor if your diarrhea does not improve.

Nausea And Vomiting

Take ACMEZID M TABLET with a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if your nausea and vomiting do not improve.

Skin Rash Or Itching

Avoid hot baths because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing while going outside. Use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. Contact your doctor if your rashes worsen.

Stomach Pain

Rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and more frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. Do not self-treat on your own, consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve on its own.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Use with Caution

Do not drive or operate any machinery if you have increased sweating, a fast heartbeat, vision disorders or difficulty in concentration, dizziness, weakness, or blurred vision after taking ACMEZID M TABLET.

ALCOHOL
Use with Caution

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking ACMEZID M TABLET, as it may increase the risk of unwanted side effects.

KIDNEY
Contraindicated

ACMEZID M TABLET is not recommended for use if you have kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

LIVER
Contraindicated

ACMEZID M TABLET is not recommended for use if you have liver failure. Consult your doctor before taking it.

ALLERGY
Contraindicated

Do not take ACMEZID M TABLET if you are allergic to Gliclazide, Metformin, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

LUNGS
Contraindicated

ACMEZID M TABLET is not recommended for use if you have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

HEART DISEASE
Contraindicated

ACMEZID M TABLET is not recommended for use if you have coronary heart disease, cardiac failure, or peripheral vascular disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

USE IN PEDIATRICS
Contraindicated

ACMEZID M TABLET is not recommended for use in children as safety and effectiveness have not been established. Consult your doctor before taking it.

USE IN GERIATRICS
Use with Caution

ACMEZID M TABLET should be used with caution only in elderly patients with normal kidney function. Consult your doctor before taking it.

OTHERS

ACMEZID M TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • have type 1 diabetes mellitus
  • have severe ketosis and acidosis
  • are planned for surgery
  • have severe trauma
  • have severe infections

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking ACMEZID M TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines, such as:

  • angiotensin enzyme inhibitors Ex. captopril, enalapril (medicines used to manage high blood pressure)
  • other antidiabetic drugs Ex. insulin, acarbose (medicines used to manage diabetes mellitus)
  • beta-blockers Ex. metoprolol (used to manage heart diseases)
  • fluconazole (used to manage fungal infections)
  • histamine (H) receptor antagonist cimetidine (used to manage stomach problems)
  • monoamine 2 oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) Ex. selegiline (medicines used to manage depression)
  • sulphonamides Ex. sulfasalazine (used to manage gastrointestinal diseases)
  • nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents Ex. ibuprofen (used to manage pain and inflammation)
  • estrogens or oral contraceptives Ex. estradiol, levonorgestrel (used to manage female reproductive health)
  • phenytoin (used to manage seizures)
  • quinolones Ex. ciprofloxacin (used to manage bacterial infections)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally took more ACMEZID M TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Overdosage may cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), and symptoms include dizziness, lightheadedness, hunger, nervousness, shaky feelings, drowsiness, confusion, perspiration, and palpitations. Severe hypoglycemic reactions include fits, neurological disorders, and lactic acidosis.
