INTRODUCTION

CYPON CAPSULE is a combination of Cyproheptadine and Dried Yeast which belongs to the group of medicines called Appetite stimulants. It is used to treat loss of appetite.

CYPON CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you have or had angle-closure glaucoma (increased eye pressure), stenosing peptic ulcer (narrowing of the opening of stomach and intestine), enlarged prostate gland. Consult your doctor before taking it.

CYPON CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with bronchial asthma, high blood pressure and heart problems, hyperthyroidism, fits. Consult your doctor before taking it.

CYPON CAPSULE should be used during pregnancy only if clearly necessary. It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

CYPON CAPSULE is not recommended for use in new-born and premature infants below 2 years of age and in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.

The most common side effect of taking CYPON CAPSULE are dry mouth, nose and throat, drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, blurred vision etc. Contact your physician if any of the symptoms worsen.

HOW CYPON CAPSULE WORKS

CYPON CAPSULE is a combination of Cyproheptadine and Dried Yeast. Cyproheptadine is a serotonin and histamine antagonist, useful in stimulating the appetite and growth. Cyproheptadine stimulates the appetite by blocking the chemical called serotonin and it antagonizes the satiety stimulating effects of serotonin on the satiety center in the brain. Dried yeast provides the necessary vitamins and helps maintain a healthy flora in the intestine.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take CYPON CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF CYPON CAPSULE

COMMON

  • dry mouth, nose and throat
  • drowsiness, dizziness
  • constipation
  • blurred vision
  • weight gain
  • increased growth in children
  • feeling restless or excited (especially in children)

RARE

Stop taking CYPON CAPSULE and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • lightheadedness
  • tremors
  • fits
  • hallucinations
  • decreased or no urination
  • abnormal heartbeats
  • easy bruising or bleeding
  • ringing in your ears
  • signs of liver disease such as pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever and weakness
  • vision problems
  • nervousness

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation

Take fiber rich foods in your diet such as fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grain cereals and drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly and stay active. Contact your doctor if constipation persist.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness

Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not drink alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if your dizziness did not improve.

Dry Mouth

Dry mouth can be managed by chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on sugar-free hard candies to stimulate the flow of saliva. Sip water at regular intervals of time. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can be drying. Consult your doctor if the dry mouth gets worse.

ALLERGY

Do not take CYPON CAPSULE if you are allergic to cyproheptadine, dried yeast or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

LUNGS
Use with Caution

CYPON CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with bronchial asthma. Consult your doctor before taking it.

HEART DISEASE
Use with Caution

CYPON CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with high blood pressure and heart problems. Consult your physician before taking CYPON CAPSULE.

USE IN PEDIATRICS
Consult your doctor

CYPON CAPSULE is not recommended for use in new-born and premature infants below 2 years of age and it should be used with caution in children aged 2 to 14 years. Consult your physician before taking it.

USE IN GERIATRICS

CYPON CAPSULE is not recommended for use in elderly patients. Consult your physician before taking it.

OTHERS

CYPON CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you:

  • have angle-closure glaucoma (increased eye pressure)
  • have stenosing peptic ulcer (narrowing of the opening of stomach and intestine)
  • have symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate gland)
  • have bladder neck obstruction (problems with urination)
  • have pyloroduodenal obstruction (obstruction of outlet of the stomach)

Before taking CYPON CAPSULE inform your doctor if you:

  • have increased intraocular pressure
  • have hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid)
  • have fits
  • are scheduled for surgery

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking CYPON CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • monoamine oxidase inhibitors (medicines used to treat depression) (Ex. isocarboxazid, phenelzine)
  • medicines used to treat anxiety, panic disorders, fits or to induce sleep) (Ex. diazepam, alprazolam, phenobarbitone, zolpidem, chlordiazepoxide)
  • medicines used to treat allergies or cold (Ex. cetirizine, clemastine)
  • muscle relaxants (medicines used in anesthesia) (Ex. pancuronium)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally took too much of this medicine, consult your physician immediately. Overdosage of CYPON CAPSULE, particularly in infants and young children, may produce hallucinations, CNS depression, fits, respiratory and cardiac arrest and death.
Other signs and symptoms such as dry mouth, fixed, dilated pupils (eyes), flushing, as well as gastrointestinal symptoms may occur.
