FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION contains Artesunate which belongs to the group of medicines called Antimalarials. It is used for the treatment of severe malaria including cerebral malaria in adult and paediatric patients. Also, it can also be used against quinine resistance.
Malaria is mosquito-borne acute febrile disease caused by a protozoan named Plasmodium falciparum. It is characterized by symptoms such as high fever, chills, sweating, headache, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, body aches, weakness, agitation, confusion, fainting on standing up and anaemia (reduced red blood cell count). Cerebral malaria is the most severe neurological complication of Plasmodium falciparum malaria which may also cause coma.
FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION is not recommended for use if you have previous history of allergic reactions to artesunate or artemisinin derivatives. Before receiving FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you liver or kidney problems or any other problems.
FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION is not recommended for use during first trimester of pregnancy. It should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before receiving FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION.
FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION should be used with caution in children. Consult your child’s doctor for advice before administration of FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION to your child.
The most common side effects associated with the use of FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION are dizziness, light-headedness, headache, rash, hair loss, taste alteration (metallic/bitter taste), nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Inform your doctor if any of these side effects bothers you.
FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION helps in treating malaria where Artesunate works by transforming into a metabolite and binds with iron component of blood and forms free radicals which inhibit the synthesis of protein and nucleic acid in Plasmodium parasites and prevents it from invading red blood cells, thus treating the malaria effectively.
FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse intravenously (into the vein) or intramuscularly (into the muscle). Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Stop receiving FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION and inform your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
Nausea or vomiting:
Stick to simple meals while receiving this medicine. Avoid eating oily, fried or spicy foods. Do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. If the symptom does not improve, inform your doctor.
Stomach pain:
Take rest to relax yourself. Try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. In case of no improvement, inform your doctor.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluids such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Consume plenty of fluids such as water and electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the forehead if necessary. Inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.
Skin rash:
Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate the skin. Do not scratch the affected area. Use moisturizers to relax and hydrate the affected skin area. Inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Before receiving FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicines:
Overdosage:
FALCIGO 60MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. In case of overdose you may experience seizures, dark stools, low levels of blood cells and multiorgan failure.
