INTRODUCTION

CINKONA 300MG TABLET contains Quinine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antimalarials. It is used to treat malaria. It can also be used to treat and prevent night cramps when sleep is regularly disrupted.

Malaria is a serious parasite infectious disease spread by certain mosquitoes. Symptoms such as chills, fever, and an enlarged spleen.

CINKONA 300MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with blood in urine, ringing in ears, suffer from muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), have problems with eyes or difficulty seeing, have a disorder affecting the red blood cells. Consult your doctor before taking it.

CINKONA 300MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with irregular heartbeat or any other heart disease, or those who have or were born with any condition that causes an abnormal heart rhythm. Consult your doctor before taking it.

CINKONA 300MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered clearly necessary. CINKONA 300MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Before taking CINKONA 300MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have had malaria for a long time, suffer from severe glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD).

CINKONA 300MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children (under 10 years). Consult your doctor before taking it.

CINKONA 300MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Proper dose adjustment and careful monitoring are required in such patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.

The most common side effects of taking CINKONA 300MG TABLET headache, dizziness, nausea, ringing in ears. Contact your doctor if any of the side effects get worse.

USES OF CINKONA 300MG TABLET

HOW CINKONA 300MG TABLET WORKS

CINKONA 300MG TABLET works by increasing the levels of heme in the blood, a substance toxic to the malarial parasite. This kills the parasite and stops the infection from spreading.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take CINKONA 300MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow it with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you based upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF CINKONA 300MG TABLET

COMMON

  • headache
  • sweating
  • ringing in ears
  • dizziness
  • change in colour vision
  • nausea
  • flushing
  • mild hearing loss
  • blurred vision

RARE

Stop taking CINKONA 300MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • allergic reactions symptoms such as itchy skin rash, swelling of the lips, face, throat or tongue, flushing, fever, asthma, or sensitivity to light
  • sores in the mouth, nose, and eyes, skin rash, blistering (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • cinchonism symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhoea, disturbed vision (blurred vision, changes in colour perception or field of vision, total blindness)
  • headache, feeling or being sick, ringing in the ears or impaired hearing, rashes, loss of consciousness, fits, shock due to heart problems, irregular heartbeats
  • bruising or bleeding easily, frequent nose bleeds, or more sore throats and infections than usual

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

If CINKONA 300MG TABLET causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headache should usually go away after the first week of taking CINKONA 300MG TABLET. If headaches last more than a week or severe, inform your doctor.

Nausea or Vomiting:

Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods.

Diarrhoea:

Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.

Dizziness:

Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

CINKONA 300MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered clearly necessary. CINKONA 300MG TABLET should not be taken for cramps during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before taking it.

BREASTFEEDING

CINKONA 300MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking it.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel that your vision is affected or causes vertigo (dizziness or spinning sensation) after taking CINKONA 300MG TABLET.

KIDNEY

Tell your doctor if you have any kidney disease, before taking CINKONA 300MG TABLET.

LIVER

Tell your doctor if you have any liver disease, before taking CINKONA 300MG TABLET.

ALLERGY

Do not take CINKONA 300MG TABLET if you are allergic to Quinine or quinoline or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

HEART DISEASE

CINKONA 300MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with irregular heartbeat or any other heart disease, or those who have or were born with any condition that causes an abnormal heart rhythm. Consult your doctor before taking it.

OTHERS

CINKONA 300MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • have ringing in ears
  • suffer from muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis)
  • have problems with eyes or difficulty seeing
  • have a disorder affecting the red blood cells (haemolysis)

Before taking CINKONA 300MG TABLET inform your doctor if you:

  • had malaria for a long time
  • suffer from severe glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD)

Use in pediatrics:

CINKONA 300MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children (under 10 years). Your doctor will give the right dose depending on your child’s age, body weight and disease condition. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Use in geriatrics:

CINKONA 300MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Proper dose adjustment and careful monitoring are required in such patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking CINKONA 300MG TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • dapsone (used to prevent malaria)
  • anticoagulants (used to stop blood from clotting)
  • digoxin (used to treat heart problems)
  • chloroquine, mefloquine, artemether with lumefantrine, primaquine, halofantrine (used to treat malaria)
  • cimetidine (used to treat stomach ulcers or acid reflux and indigestion)
  • amantadine (used to treat Parkinsons Disease or some viral infections)
  • ciclosporin (used to prevent transplant rejection)
  • flecainide, quinidine, or amiodarone (used to treat irregular heartbeats)
  • astemizole or terfenadine (used to treat allergic reactions)
  • pimozide or thioridazine (used to treat some mental disorders)
  • moxifloxacin, rifampicin, or antifungals (used to treat infections)
  • medicines used to treat diabetes
  • suxamethonium (used as a muscle relaxant)
  • HIV medicines (used to treat HIV infection)
  • barbiturates, carbamazepine, or phenytoin (used to treat epilepsy)
  • levacetylmethadol (used as pain killer)

B. Drug - Food interactions:

Avoid foods like fava beans during treatment with CINKONA 300MG TABLET if you suffer from severe glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, as this can cause episodes of anaemia.

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of CINKONA 300MG TABLET consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are trouble breathing, changes in heartbeat, fits, ringing in the ears or loss of hearing, headache, vomiting, changes in eyesight, muscle twitching or weakness, low blood sugar.
