ALKASTON ORAL SOLUTION is a combination of Potassium citrate and Magnesium citrate which belongs to the group of medicines called Urinary alkalizers and Saline laxatives respectively. It is used in the treatment of renal tubular acidosis with calcium stones and kidney stones (hypocitraturic calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis and uric acid lithiasis with or without calcium stones).
Renal tubular acidosis is a condition in which the kidneys do not remove acids from the blood into the urine as they usually should. Before taking ALKASTON ORAL SOLUTION, your doctor might want you to take certain blood tests and ECG to understand your existing condition.

Safety and effectiveness of ALKASTON ORAL SOLUTION in children has not been established yet. The most common side effects of taking ALKASTON ORAL SOLUTION are abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Treats,
ALKASTON ORAL SOLUTION works by reducing the kidney stone formation. Potassium citrate and magnesium citrate, causes the metabolism of absorbed citrate producing an alkaline load. In addition to raising urinary pH and citrate, this also increases urinary potassium and magnesium. In certain patients, potassium citrate causes a transient reduction in urinary calcium. These changes produce urine that is less helpful to the crystallization of stone-forming salts.
Take ALKASTON ORAL SOLUTION as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. Use a measuring cup or spoon to properly measure a dose. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Stop taking ALKASTON ORAL SOLUTION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
