CILOSTOZ 100 TABLET contains Cilostazol which belongs to the group of medicines called Phosphodiesterase type 3 inhibitors. It is used in the treatment of intermittent claudication, which is defined as the cramp-like pain in the legs while walking caused by insufficient blood supply in the legs. Symptoms include pain, ache, discomfort or fatigue in muscles every time, when those muscles are used (usually the calves, thighs, buttocks, hips or feet).
Along with this treatment your doctor might advise you to make lifestyle modifications like increasing regular exercise and stop smoking. Prior to the treatment, your doctor may want you to take ankle-brachial index test to understand your existing condition.
CILOSTOZ 100 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having severe heart problems (such as heart failure, heart attack), uncontrolled blood pressure, kidney or liver disease, active stomach ulcer and stroke.
Do not drink large amounts of grapefruit juice while taking CILOSTOZ 100 TABLET as it may reduce the effect of this medicine. CILOSTOZ 100 TABLET is not recommended for use among pregnant or breastfeeding women, therefore consult your doctor before taking it. This medicine is not recommended for use in children and adolescents.
The most common side effects of taking CILOSTOZ 100 TABLET are headache, abnormal stools, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, dizziness, nausea and loss of appetite. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen over the time.
CILOSTOZ 100 TABLET acts by inhibiting the activity of certain enzymes (phosphodiesterase) which helps in the increase in the level of cAMP (cellular messengers to initiate certain actions) in platelets and blood vessels. The cAMP helps in widening of some blood vessels and reducing the clotting activity of platelets inside the blood vessels. Hence increasing the blood circulation to the legs making it easier and less painful to walk.
Take CILOSTOZ 100 TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow CILOSTOZ 100 TABLET with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Stop taking CILOSTOZ 100 TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
Drink lot of fluids such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid eating high-fat or spicy foods. Avoid taking any medicine on your own for treating diarrhea. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Lie down until dizziness goes away and then move slowly and carefully. Take sufficient rest and drink plenty of fluids. Rise slowly after sitting or lying down. Be careful while going up and down stairs. Consult your doctor if the symptom worsens.
Drink ample amount of water and avoid skipping meals. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Stick to simple meals while taking this medicine. Avoid eating oily, fried and spicy foods. Do not perform any strenuous activities immediately after eating. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to eat smaller meals more frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
