INTRODUCTION

IPCA MMF S TABLET contains Mycophenolate sodium which belongs to the group of medicines called Immunosuppressants. It is used to prevent your body rejecting a transplanted organ (kidney). It is also given with other medications such as corticosteroids and ciclosporin.

During treatment with IPCA MMF S TABLET, your doctor might advise you to take regular blood tests to check white blood cell count to assess immunity function of the body.

IPCA MMF S TABLET is not recommended for use if you are allergic to mycophenolic acid, mycophenolate sodium, and mycophenolate mofetil.

It should be used with caution in patients with serious digestive problems (such as stomach ulcer), who are scheduled for vaccination, intolerance to certain sugars (such as lactose, galactose, or glucose), liver problems (such as history of hepatitis B or C), and severe kidney problems.

It is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. IPCA MMF S TABLET is also not recommended for use in children and adolescents (below 18 years of age). Consult your doctor for advice.

It should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). The most common side effects associated with the use of IPCA MMF S TABLET are bloating, constipation, indigestion, high blood pressure, anxiety, diarrhoea, joint pain and dizziness. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsens.

HOW IPCA MMF S TABLET WORKS

IPCA MMF S TABLET belongs to immunosuppressants which reduces the action of the body's own defense system (the immune system) and prevents rejection of the transplanted organ.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take IPCA MMF S TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF IPCA MMF S TABLET

COMMON

  • low level of white blood cells
  • low calcium levels
  • constipation, feeling of skipped heart beats, weakness, or muscle damage (low potassium levels)
  • severe pain in joints, joint stiffness, difficulty in moving the affected joints, redness, and swelling (high level of uric acid in the blood)
  • high or low blood pressure
  • anxiety
  • diarrhoea
  • joint pain
  • tiredness, breathlessness, and skin paleness (anemia)
  • abnormal eye movements, convulsions, muscle spasms, or weakness (low magnesium levels)
  • dizziness, headache
  • cough

RARE

Stop taking IPCA MMF S TABLET and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • persistent cough or become breathlessness
  • unexpected bruising or bleeding
  • fever, chills, sweating, tiredness, drowsiness, or lack of energy
  • signs of stomach or intestinal ulcers such as blood in vomit, black or bloody stools
  • swelling of your glands, development of a new skin growth, enlargement of an existing skin growth, alterations in an existing mole
  • signs of hepatitis B or C such as yellow skin and eyes, nausea, loss of appetite, and dark urine

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Take rest and drink plenty of water. Avoid taking alcohol and skipping meals. Do not strain your eyes by watching screen for long time. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Dizziness:

Lie down until the dizziness passes and get up slowly. Do not bend down suddenly. Get a lot of rest. Walk slowly and carefully. Take plenty of fluids. Avoid drinking coffee, alcohol, or smoking. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Diarrhoea:

Drink lot of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhoea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

Constipation:

Try to eat more high-fibre foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables, cereals, and drink plenty of water. Try doing exercise regularly (going for a daily walk or run). If this does not help, inform your doctor for receiving alternate treatment for constipation.

Nausea and Vomiting:

Try to take IPCA MMF S TABLET with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily, fried or spicy foods. Do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

IPCA MMF S TABLET is not recommended for use during pregnancy and in women planning to become pregnant. Women with childbearing potential should confirm with negative in pregnancy test and follow effective contraception before taking IPCA MMF S TABLET to avoid birth defects and miscarriage. Consult your doctor before taking IPCA MMF S TABLET.

BREASTFEEDING

IPCA MMF S TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it can pass into the breast milk. Consult your doctor taking IPCA MMF S TABLET.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

IPCA MMF S TABLET has no or negligible effect on your ability to drive and use machines. Consult your doctor before taking IPCA MMF S TABLET.

KIDNEY

IPCA MMF S TABLET should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking IPCA MMF S TABLET.

LIVER

IPCA MMF S TABLET should be used with caution in patients with a history of hepatitis B or C (liver infection). Consult your doctor before taking IPCA MMF S TABLET.

ALLERGY

Do not take IPCA MMF S TABLET if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Mycophenolate sodium or to some sugars such as lactose, galactose, or glucose or to other ingredients of this medicine.

LUNGS

IPCA MMF S TABLET should be used with caution in patients with lung diseases. Contact your doctor before taking IPCA MMF S TABLET.

OTHERS

IPCA MMF S TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • have hereditary enzyme deficiency such as Lesch-Nyhan (neurogenetic disorder) and Kelley-Seegmiller syndrome (partial deficiency of the enzyme hypoxanthine guanine phosphoribosyl transferase)

Before taking IPCA MMF S TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

  • have stomach ulcers
  • are scheduled for any vaccination
  • are intolerance to some sugars (including lactose, galactose, or glucose)

Use in pediatrics:

IPCA MMF S TABLET is not recommended for use in children due to lack of data. Consult child’s doctor for advice.

Use in geriatrics:

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

Before taking IPCA MMF S TABLET, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • other immunosuppressant medicines (used to prevent organ rejection) Ex. azathioprine, tacrolimus, cyclosporine
  • medicines used to treat high blood cholesterol levels (Ex. cholestyramine)
  • activated charcoal (medicine used to treat digestive problems such as diarrhoea, upset stomach, and gas)
  • medicines used treat acidity such as antacids (Ex. magnesium salts, aluminium salts)
  • medicines used to treat viral infections (Ex. acyclovir, ganciclovir)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of IPCA MMF S TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
