INTRODUCTION

THYROCAB 10MG TABLET contains Carbimazole which belongs to the group of medicines called Antithyroid agents. It is used to reduce the formation of thyroid hormones in adults and children with an overactive thyroid gland (Hyperthyroidism). This medicine is also helps to restore the normal function of the thyroid before its partial removal by surgery.

Your doctor may take blood or liver tests to determine how you are responding to the treatment. THYROCAB 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver, blood disorders or history of inflammation of the pancreas (acute pancreatitis). Before taking THYROCAB 10MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have bone marrow depression, mild or moderate liver problems, swelling in neck called an intrathoracic goiter or intolerant to certain sugars.

THYROCAB 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women as it can harm the unborn baby. It is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking. THYROCAB 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age and should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years of age. The common side effects of taking THYROCAB 10MG TABLET are nausea, headache, arthralgia, mild gastric distress, skin rashes and pruritus. Contact your doctor if you experience any above side effects or persists for a longer duration.

USES OF THYROCAB 10MG TABLET

  • It is used to reduce the formation of thyroid hormones in adults and children with an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism)

HOW THYROCAB 10MG TABLET WORKS

THYROCAB 10MG TABLET consists of Carbimazole, a thionamide, is a pro-drug which undergoes rapid and virtually complete metabolism to the active metabolite, thiamazole, also known as methimazole. The method of action is believed to be inhibition of the organification of iodide and the coupling of iodothyronine residues which in turn suppress the synthesis of thyroid hormones.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take THYROCAB 10MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight, and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF THYROCAB 10MG TABLET

COMMON

  • nausea
  • headache
  • arthralgia
  • mild gastric distress
  • skin rashes
  • pruritus

Stop taking THYROCAB 10MG TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • fever or abdominal pain, which may be signs of inflammation of the pancreas (acute pancreatitis)
  • weakness, pale skin, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath (pancytopenia/aplastic anaemia)
  • easy or excessive bruising, prolonged bleeding from cuts, blood in urine or stools (thrombocytopaenia)
  • bone morrow depression which causes a reduction in the number of blood cells and reduces the ability to fight infection

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache

Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.

Nausea And Vomiting

Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if your vomiting worsens.

PREGNANCY
Use with Caution

THYROCAB 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women or women planning to have a baby. It will be given to you only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to you and your unborn baby. Consult your doctor before taking it.

BREASTFEEDING
Contraindicated

THYROCAB 10MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines if you experience any unusual effects after taking THYROCAB 10MG TABLET.

LIVER

THYROCAB 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease. It should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

ALLERGY
Contraindicated

Do not take THYROCAB 10MG TABLET if you are allergic to Carbimazole or any other ingredients of this medicine.

USE IN PEDIATRICS
Contraindicated

THYROCAB 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

USE IN GERIATRICS
Use with Caution

THYROCAB 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

OTHERS

THYROCAB 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • have severe blood disorders
  • have history of inflammation of the pancreas (acute pancreatitis)

Before taking THYROCAB 10MG TABLET inform your doctor if you:

INTERACTIONS

A, Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking THYROCAB 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • anticoagulants (used to thin blood clot) (Ex. warfarin)
  • medicines used for asthma or breathing problems (Ex. Theophylline)
  • steroids (Ex. prednisolone) used to manage allergies
  • antibiotic (Ex. erythromycin) used to manage bacterial infections
  • medicines used for heart failure (Ex. digitalis)
  • medicines used to manage high blood pressure (Ex. atenolol)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of THYROCAB 10MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.
