METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET contains Methimazole which belongs to the group of medicines called Antithyroid Agents. It is used to manage overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism) in adults. It is also used to prepare for thyroidectomy (removal of the thyroid gland).
METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET is not recommended if you have history of acute pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain). METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver, kidney disease, large goitre (swelling in the front neck). Consult your doctor before taking it. METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless it is considered clearly necessary. METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine. The most common side effects of taking METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET are anorexia (eating disorder), muscle pain, dizziness, drowsiness, neuritis, edema, numbness hair loss and heartburn. Contact your doctor if any of the above side effects worsen or persists for a longer duration.

METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET helps to inhibit the synthesis of thyroid hormones and thus is effective in the management of hyperthyroidism.
Take METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Stop taking METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET and consult with your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you are feeling dizzy. Consult your doctor if your dizziness did not improve.
Take METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET, with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if your nausea and vomiting did not improve.
METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless it is considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breast feeding women as this medicine passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Women of childbearing potential should use effective methods of contraception during treatment with METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET. If you become pregnant or think you are pregnant while taking METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET, contact your doctor right away.
A: Yes, METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET may cause dizziness in some individuals. Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume too much of alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness did not improve.
A: Take METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET as advised by your doctor. It is usually taken three times a day, approximately every 8 hours, with food. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
A: Acute kidney injury with or without the presence of nephrotic syndrome may occur during treatment with METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET. Kidney function should be closely monitored by your doctor after the initiation of this medicine to prevent progressive renal dysfunction.
A: METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET is used in adults to manage hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland). It is also used to prepare for thyroidectomy (removal of the thyroid gland). It works by decreasing the amount of thyroid hormone your body makes. Contact your doctor before taking the medicine.
A: Yes, METHIMERCAZOLE 5MG TABLET may cause liver dysfunction. Symptoms include jaundice (yellowish discolouration of skin and whites of the eye), loss of appetite, itching and/or pain at right upper-quadrant of stomach. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any side effects.
A: Your doctor will check your progress at regular visits to make sure that the medicine is working properly by conducting blood and urine tests may be needed to check for unwanted effects.
