AZITHRAL EYE OINTMENT contains Azithromycin which belongs to a group of medicines called Macrolide antibiotics. It is used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis (bacterial infection that affects mucous membrane of eye) caused by susceptible microorganisms such as Haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mitis group, and Streptococcus pneumonia in affected individuals.
AZITHRAL EYE OINTMENT is not recommended for use if you are allergic to azithromycin.
AZITHRAL EYE OINTMENT should be used with caution in pregnant and breast-feeding women only if it is clearly necessary. It is also advised to be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged 1 to 18 years) after consulting the doctor.
The most common side effects of receiving AZITHRAL EYE OINTMENT are eye irritation, and conjunctival hyperaemia (acute inflammation of eye). Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsen.
AZITHRAL EYE OINTMENT works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis (essential for the bacteria to growth) which results in its destruction thus preventing its growth and spread of infection and providing relief from bacterial conjunctivitis in affected individuals.
Always use AZITHRAL EYE OINTMENT as directed by your physician. It is for topical ophthalmic use. Wash and dry your hands before applying the medicine. Remove the cap and tilt your head slightly backwards. Gently pull down your lower eyelid to form a pocket and squeeze the medicine in a sweeping motion inside the pocket of your lower eyelid. Avoid touching the tip with your eye/eyelid. Gently blink your eyes to have the medicine spread inside the eye and keep your eyes closed for 1 to 2 minutes. Wipe away excess medicine from your eyelid and eyelashes and recap the tip. Your doctor will determine the correct dose and duration for you based upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
AZITHRAL EYE OINTMENT should be used with caution during pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before using the medicine.
AZITHRAL EYE OINTMENT should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it is not known whether it is excreted in breast milk. Consult your doctor before using the medicine.
