ABSENZ SYRUP contains Ethosuximide which belongs to a group of medicines called Anti-epileptics. It is used in the treatment of epilepsy. It controls brief, sudden loss of consciousness (absence seizures or petit mal seizures) and uncontrolled jerking movements (myoclonic seizure).
Epilepsy is a condition of central nervous system in which the brain activity becomes abnormal causing seizures (fits), episodes of unusual behaviour, sensations and loss of awareness.
Prior to the treatment with ABSENZ SYRUP your doctor might ask you to take several diagnostic tests to better assess your condition.
Before taking ABSENZ SYRUP inform your doctor if you have porphyria (metabolism disorder), liver or kidney disease.
ABSENZ SYRUP should be taken with doctor’s consultation in pregnant women. It is not recommended to take ABSENZ SYRUP in breast feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
The most common side effects of taking ABSENZ SYRUP are decreased appetite, headache, difficulty in controlling movements, dizziness, drowsiness, stomachache and cramps, feeling sick, vomiting, skin rash. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects worsen.
ABSENZ SYRUP works by acting on the central nervous system and blocks the abnormal activity of nerve cells and prevents the unusual build-up of electrical signals in the brain.
Take ABSENZ SYRUP as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Stop taking ABSENZ SYRUP and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
Headache:
Rest and relax. Apply a pain-relieving bam on your forehead. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.
Drowsiness:
Take adequate sleep. Do not involve in rigorous activities. Do not interfere with your sleep cycle. Talk to your doctor if the symptom doesn’t improve.
Diarrhea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.
ABSENZ SYRUP should be taken with caution in pregnant women unless considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking it.
ABSENZ SYRUP is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel drowsy after taking ABSENZ SYRUP.
ABSENZ SYRUP should be taken with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking.
ABSENZ SYRUP should be taken with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking.
Do not take ABSENZ SYRUP if you are allergic to Ethosuximide or any other ingredients of this medicine.

Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of ABSENZ SYRUP, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are extreme drowsiness and confusion.

What is ABSENZ SYRUP used for?

It is used to control epilepsy(fits) in children and adults and is considered as the drug of choice in the treatment of absence seizures (or petit-mal seizures). Consult your doctor regarding the severity of the disease condition for correct dosage and duration of ABSENZ SYRUP.
What if I forget to take ABSENZ SYRUP?
If you miss your ABSENZ SYRUP dose at the usual time, take it immediately and then return to your routine dosing time. If it is almost time for your next dose, just skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time of dosage. Do not take two doses of ABSENZ SYRUP at the same time to make up for the missed dose.
Can I stop taking ABSENZ SYRUP if I feel better?
Do not alter or discontinue the daily dose of ABSENZ SYRUP after feeling better without consulting your doctor as it may lead to seizures. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Is ABSENZ SYRUP safe to use in pregnancy or breast feeding?
ABSENZ SYRUP must be used with caution in pregnant and in women who are planning to become pregnant. It is not recommended for use in breast feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Can ABSENZ SYRUP cause headache?
Yes, headache is one of the most common side effects of taking ABSENZ SYRUP. In case if you are experiencing a headache after taking ABSENZ SYRUP, try to rest and relax. Keep drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the forehead if needed. Do not consume too much of alcohol. Consult your doctor if headache persists for a long time.
Can I drive a car after taking ABSENZ SYRUP?
It’s advisable not to drive as ABSENZ SYRUP may cause drowsiness or dizziness which could change your reactivity and may impair your reactions while driving. Consult your doctor before using ABSENZ SYRUP.
Can I take other epileptic medicines with ABSENZ SYRUP?
It is advisable not use other epileptic drugs (such as carbamazepine, phenytoin, sodium valproate and valproic acid) with ABSENZ SYRUP unless advised by the doctor. Your doctor may need to test the amount of these medicines in your blood to help decide if any of these medicines are affecting your treatment.
