INTRODUCTION ABOUT DUPHALAC LEMON FLAVOUR ORAL SOLUTION

Duphalac Oral Solution Lemon Flavour is a laxative used to treat constipation and hepatic encephalopathy (a liver disease causing confusion, shaking and decreased level of consciousness). It contains lactulose as active ingredient which helps to increase the number of bowel movements.

Lactulose is an artificial sugar that breaks down in the large intestine and then draws water into the intestine. This softens your stool, which helps to relieve constipation. It can also be used to reduce the level of ammonia in blood in people with liver disease.

Always take Duphalac Oral Solution Lemon Flavour as advised by your doctor. Do not take if you have galactosaemia (a rare problem), or a blockage caused by anything else except normal constipation, gastrointestinal perforation or risk of perforation, galactose or fructose intolerance, total lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.

Inform your doctor if you have unexplained tummy ache, if you are unable to digest milk sugar (lactose intolerant), or if you have diabetes. Duphalac Oral Solution Lemon Flavour should only be given to infants and smaller children if specifically advised by the doctor.

FAQs ABOUT DUPHALAC LEMON FLAVOUR ORAL SOLUTION

Q: What is Duphalac Liquid used for?

A: Duphalac is a laxative medicine that provides relief from constipation and as an adjuvant in the management of hepatic encephalopathy. It contains lactulose as an active ingredient. Lactulose works by retaining more water/fluid within the intestines which softens hard stools, thus facilitating the easy passage of feces. It also increases the number of bowel movements which helps in relieving occasional constipation. Studies have shown that by treating constipation, it eliminates the toxic gas (ammonia) from the gut which could worsen hepatic encephalopathy.

Q: How fast does Duphalac works?

A: Duphalac begins to work after 8-12 hours of administration. However, it may take 48 hours to show its complete effects on constipation.

Q: Is Duphalac safe for toddlers?

A: Duphalac should be used in children, infants, and babies under medical supervision because it can influence the normal reflexes for passing stools. Therefore, do not administer Duphalac to your children (especially aged below 14 years) without consulting your doctor.

Q: Can I use Duphalac for long-term?

A: You can utilize Duphalac for the duration of your constipation or as advised by your doctor. Typically, this would be for a maximum of one week. However, in cases of severe constipation or when lactulose is prescribed for hepatic encephalopathy, your physician might suggest its use for an extended period, possibly spanning several months.

Q: What are the side effects of taking Duphalac Liquid?

Q: What is the best time to take Duphalac Syrup?

A: It is generally recommended to take it at the same time each day to establish a routine. Some people prefer taking it in the morning to promote regular bowel movements throughout the day, while others find it more convenient to take it in the evening to facilitate bowel movements the following morning. Ultimately, it's advisable to follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider or pharmacist for the most suitable timing based on your specific circumstances and medical needs.

Q: How to take Duphalac liquid?

A: Take Duphalac Liquid using a spoon or measuring cup. It can be combined with fruit juice or water. It's advisable to stay hydrated by consuming ample fluids (around 6-8 glasses daily). Q: Can Duphalac Liquid be given to infants?

A: Duphalac Liquid is usually not recommended for use in infants and smaller children as it can disturb the normal reflexes for passing stools. Your child’s doctor will decide the correct dose or select a suitable alternative treatment for your child. In special situations, your doctor may prescribe it for your baby, and they will supervise the treatment closely.

Q: Can Duphalac cause diarrhoea?

A: Duphalac may cause diarrhoea when you take a higher than the recommended dose of it. In such cases, stop using this medicine and consult your doctor for advice.

Q: Can Duphalac be used during pregnancy?

A: Duphalac can be used during pregnancy if prescribed by the physician.

Q: What if I forget to take a dose of Duphalac liquid?

A: If you forget to take a dose of Duphalac, take it as soon as you remember. However, omit the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take Duphalac liquid twice to make up for the forgotten dose.

Q: Can I stop taking Duphalac on my own?

A: Continue taking Duphalac until your doctor tells you to stop, unless you experience any unwanted effects, worsening of your condition or any new symptoms. In such a case, contact your doctor right away. If you stopped taking it suddenly, the expected benefit of the treatment may not be achieved.

Q: How does Duphalac works?

A: Duphalac works by making the stool softer and easier to pass, by drawing more water into the bowel. It also reduces the amount of ammonia in the blood by removing the toxin from the bloodstream which helps to improve cognitive functions.
