GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) contains Teriparatide which belongs to the group of medicines called Bone anabolic agents. GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) is used in adults to treat osteoporosis to make bones stronger and reduce the risk of bone fracture which generally occurs more commonly in women (after menopause) than in men.
GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Teriparatide. It is also not recommended for use in patients suffering from hypercalcaemia (high calcium level in blood), certain bone diseases, Paget’s disease (condition that disrupts the replacement of old bone tissue with new bone tissue), and severe kidney problems.
Before receiving GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE), inform your doctor if you have liver disease (such as hepatic impairment), and/or kidney problems (such as moderate renal impairment, kidney stones).
GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. It is also not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 80 years and above) after consulting your doctor.
The most common side effects of receiving GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) are pain in limb, muscle cramps, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, headache, and/or dizziness. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.
GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) works by increasing the number and activity of osteoblasts (bone-forming cells) which leads to strengthening of bones and minimizes the risk of fractures thus treating osteoporosis in affected individuals.
GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into thigh/abdominal region as a subcutaneous injection. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Stop receiving GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
Nausea and vomiting:
Take GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) with/just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich/spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, and drink slowly in between meals. Consult your doctor if the condition worsens.
Indigestion:
Try to have smaller and more frequent meals and drink slowly. Reduce consumption of coffee, cola, tea, or alcohol and lose weight if you are obese. Try to avoid smoking and don’t have rich, fatty or spicy foods. Consult your doctor and inform if the symptom does not improve.
Headache:
If GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of taking GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE). If it lasts more than a week or becomes severe, then consult and inform your doctor.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and get enough sleep. Try to avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you feel dizzy. Limit consumption of alcohol, as it can aggravate dizziness. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.
Tiredness:
Make sure you take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol. Try to take GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) at a time when you can sit down (or lie down) when the symptoms are at their worst. Avoid driving or using tools or machinery until you feel well.
GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraceptive methods to prevent accidental pregnancy. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine and inform immediately if pregnancy occurs unintentionally. Contact your doctor before receiving the medicine.
GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) is not recommended for use in breast feeding women. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy after receiving GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE).
GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney problems. It should be used with caution in patients with other kidney problems such as moderate renal impairment, kidney stones. Consult your doctor before receiving GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE).
GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE) should be used with caution in patients with liver disease such as hepatic impairment. Consult your doctor before receiving GEMTIDE PREFILLED 600MCG PEN(DEVICE).
