INTRODUCTION

AB PHYLLINE SYRUP contains Acebrophylline which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-asthmatic drugs. It is used in the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It can also be used to treat inflammation of the airways (such as bronchitis)

AB PHYLLINE SYRUP is suitable for use both in adults and in children (aged 6 years or above). Before taking AB PHYLLINE SYRUP inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have fits, stomach ulcers, viral infections, hypertension or hyperthyroidism as a precaution.

AB PHYLLINE SYRUP is not recommended for use in pregnant women. It should be used in breastfeeding women only if it is considered necessary by the physician.

The most common side effects of taking AB PHYLLINE SYRUP are epigastric pain, stomach discomfort, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, diarrhea and constipation. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects trouble you.

USES OF AB PHYLLINE SYRUP

It is used in adults and in children (aged 6 years or above) to treat and prevent:

  • Asthma & COPD
  • Bronchitis (inflammation of the airways)

HOW AB PHYLLINE SYRUP WORKS

AB PHYLLINE SYRUP is a bronchodilator with anti-inflammatory properties. It blocks the release of certain chemicals (such as phosphodiesterase) in the respiratory tract that triggers airway inflammation, swelling and narrowing. As a result, it widens the airways, and reduces airway inflammation. It also loosens the mucus accumulated in the airways which allows the air to pass through more freely through the airways and makes breathing easier.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take AB PHYLLINE SYRUP as advised by your physician. Shake the medicine well before use. Measure the required quantity of the medicine in a measuring cup and consume it immediately.

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Do not stop taking AB PHYLLINE SYRUP once your symptoms subside without consulting your doctor.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea and Vomiting

Take AB PHYLLINE SYRUP with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if your symptom worsens.

Dizziness:

Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

AB PHYLLINE SYRUP is not recommended for use in pregnancy. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

BREASTFEEDING

It is not known whether AB PHYLLINE SYRUP can pass through breast milk. Therefore, it should be used in breastfeeding women only if considered necessary by the physician.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

AB PHYLLINE SYRUP usually does not affect your ability to drive or operate any machinery. However, do not drive or handle any heavy tools or machines if you feel dizzy or drowsy after taking AB PHYLLINE SYRUP.

KIDNEY

AB PHYLLINE SYRUP is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney problems. It should be used with caution in patients with other kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

LIVER

AB PHYLLINE SYRUP is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver problems. It should be used with caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

ALLERGY

Do not take AB PHYLLINE SYRUP if you are allergic to Acebrophylline or to any other methylxanthines (such as theophylline, doxophylline).

HEART DISEASE

AB PHYLLINE SYRUP is not recommended for use in patients suffering from myocardial infarction or arrythmias. It should be used with caution in patients with heart failure or any other heart problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

OTHERS

AB PHYLLINE SYRUP is not recommended for use if you:

  • have hypotension (low blood pressure)
  • have fluid and electrolyte imbalance

Before taking AB PHYLLINE SYRUP, inform your doctor if you:

  • have chronic alcoholism (addiction to alcohol)
  • have any viral infections
  • have an over-active thyroid gland
  • have hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • have ulcers in the stomach and/or intestines
  • have fits (seizures)

Use in paediatrics:

AB PHYLLINE SYRUP can be used in children and adolescents (aged between 6-18 years) if prescribed by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Use in geriatrics:

AB PHYLLINE SYRUP should be used with caution in the elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Before taking AB PHYLLINE SYRUP, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:

  • allopurinol (a medicine used to treat gout)
  • cimetidine (a medicine used to treat stomach ulcers)
  • medicines used to treat bacterial infections (such as ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, doxycycline, amoxicillin)
  • corticosteroids (used to treat pain and inflammation) such as prednisolone
  • diltiazem, verapamil (a medicine used to treat heart problems)
  • frusemide (a medicine used to reduce edema and blood pressure by increasing urine output)
  • isoprenaline (a medicine used to treat slow heart rate)
  • oral contraceptives (birth control pills) such as ethinylestradiol
  • thiabendazole (a medicine used to treat worm infections)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally took more AB PHYLLINE SYRUP, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose might include nausea, vomiting, upper stomach pain, restlessness, fits, fast heart rate and hyperactivity.
