INTRODUCTION

ANXIPAN CAPSULE is a combination of Amitriptyline, Pantoprazole which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidepressants and Proton pump inhibitors respectively. It is used in the treatment of Gastroesophageal reflux disease associated with anxiety.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a condition characterized by the backflow of stomach contents like acid into the esophagus (food pipe), causing several symptoms, such as heartburn, chest pain and discomfort in which some patients may develop psychotic factors like anxiety and depression.

ANXIPAN CAPSULE is not suitable for use in patients with severe liver disease and heart problems such as heart attack. Consult your doctor for advice.

ANXIPAN CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant or breast-feeding woman. Consult your doctor for advice.

ANXIPAN CAPSULE is generally not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 12 years of age and it should be used with caution in patients above 65 years of age.

The common side effects of taking ANXIPAN CAPSULE are slurred speech, excessive sweating, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

USES OF ANXIPAN CAPSULE

HOW ANXIPAN CAPSULE WORKS

ANXIPAN CAPSULE is a combination of Amitriptyline and Pantoprazole which treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) associated with anxiety. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant which increases the levels of chemical messengers in the brain that help in regulating the mood and treat depression. Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor which reduces the amount of acid in the stomach and relieves acid-related indigestion and heartburn.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take ANXIPAN CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water and do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF ANXIPAN CAPSULE

COMMON

  • benign polyps (tissue growth) in the stomach
  • sleepiness
  • drowsiness
  • shakiness of hands or other body parts
  • dizziness
  • headache
  • dizziness when you stand up due to low blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension)
  • irregular, hard, or rapid heartbeat
  • dry mouth
  • constipation
  • nausea
  • excessive sweating
  • weight gain
  • slurred or slow speech
  • aggression
  • congested nose
  • sexual disturbances
  • disturbance in attention
  • altered taste sensation
  • numbness or tingling in the arms or legs
  • disturbed coordination
  • dilated pupils
  • fatigue
  • urination disorders
  • feeling thirsty

UNCOMMON

  • abdominal pain and discomfort
  • skin rash, exanthema, eruption
  • itching
  • feeling weak, exhausted, or generally unwell
  • fracture in the hip, wrist, or spine

RARE

  • distortion or complete lack of the sense of taste
  • blurred vision
  • pain in the joints
  • muscle pain
  • high fever
  • swelling of the extremities (peripheral oedema)
  • allergic reaction
  • breast enlargement in males
  • decreased appetite
  • delirium, hallucinations
  • abnormality in the heart’s rhythm, or heartbeat pattern
  • swelling of the salivary glands
  • hair loss
  • increased sensitivity to sunlight

Stop taking ANXIPAN CAPSULE and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • swelling of the tongue and/ or throat, difficulty in swallowing, hives (nettle rash), difficulties in breathing, allergic facial swelling (Quincke’s oedema/angioedema), severe dizziness with a very fast heartbeat and heavy sweating
  • blistering of the skin and rapid deterioration of the general condition, peeling of the skin of eyes, nose, mouth/lips or genitals (Stevens Johnson-Syndrome, Lyell-Syndrome, Erythema multiforme)
  • sensitivity to light
  • intermittent blurring of vision, rainbow vision, and eye pain
  • constipation, a swollen stomach, fever and vomiting
  • yellowing of the skin and the white in the eyes (jaundice)
  • persistent sore throat and fever
  • self-harming thoughts

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation:

Eat plenty of fibre-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.

Drowsiness:

When you feel drowsy, lie, or sit down immediately. If you're feeling severe episodes of vertigo, lie in a dark and quiet place with your eyes closed. Vehicle driving should be avoided if you experience frequent drowsiness without warning. Talk to your doctor if the symptom is not improving.

Dry mouth:

Dry mouth can be managed by chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on sugar-free hard candies to stimulate the flow of saliva. Sip water at regular intervals of time. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can be drying. Consult your physician for advice.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. Try to have smaller and more frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

Flatulence:

Eat smaller and more frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly, and exercise regularly. If the symptom does not improve. Contact your doctor for advice.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

ANXIPAN CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant woman or if you think you might become pregnant. Consult your doctor before taking ANXIPAN CAPSULE.

BREASTFEEDING

ANXIPAN CAPSULE is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through breastmilk to the baby. Consult your doctor for advice.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or have vision disturbance after taking this medicine. Consult your doctor before taking ANXIPAN CAPSULE.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine as it may cause sleepiness.

LIVER

ANXIPAN CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking ANXIPAN CAPSULE.

ALLERGY

Do not take ANXIPAN CAPSULE if you are allergic to Amitriptyline and Pantoprazole or any other ingredients of this medicine.

HEART DISEASE

ANXIPAN CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients who had heart attack or any other heart problems like disturbance in heart rhythm. Consult your doctor before taking ANXIPAN CAPSULE.

OTHERS

Before taking ANXIPAN CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:

  • have low blood pressure
  • have vitamin B12 deficiency
  • have signs of low levels of magnesium such as fatigue, involuntary muscle contractions, disorientation, convulsions, dizziness, increased heart rate
  • have skin rash when exposed to sunlight
  • are undergoing a blood test called Chromogranin A

Use in pediatrics:

ANXIPAN CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 12 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking ANXIPAN CAPSULE.

Use in geriatrics:

ANXIPAN CAPSULE should be used with caution in elderly patients. Before taking ANXIPAN CAPSULE, consult your doctor.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking ANXIPAN CAPSULE inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • phenelzine, iproniazid, isocarboxazid, nialamide or tranylcypromine (medicines used to treat depression)
  • ketoconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole (medicines used to treat fungal infections)
  • erlotinib (medicine used for certain types of cancer)
  • warfarin and phenprocoumon (medicines used as a blood thinning agent)
  • methotrexate (medicine used to treat autoimmune disease and cancer)
  • fluvoxamine (medicine used to treat depression and other psychiatric diseases)
  • rifampicin (medicine used to treat infections)
  • St john’s wort (hypericum perforatum) (used to treat mild depression)
  • glyceryl trinitrate, adrenaline, ephedrine, isoprenaline, noradrenaline, atenolol, propranolol (medicines used to treat heart disease)
  • phenylephrine and phenylpropanolamine (medicines used to treat cough and cold)
  • medicine to treat high blood pressure (Ex. diltiazem and verapamil, guanethidine, betanidine, clonidine, reserpine and methyldopa)
  • medicines to treat Parkinson’s disease and gastrointestinal disorders (Ex. atropine, hyoscyamine)
  • thioridazine (medicine used to treat schizophrenia)
  • painkillers like nefopam, tramadol and morphine, buprenorphine
  • phenobarbital, pentobarbital (medicines used to treat insomnia) or other sleeping medicines like triazolam, zolpidem
  • antidepressants (Ex. fluoxetine, paroxetine, fluvoxamine, duloxetine, and bupropion)
  • cimetidine (medicine used to treat stomach ulcers)
  • methylphenidate (used to treat ADHD-attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • ritonavir (medicine used to treat HIV)
  • oral contraceptives
  • valproic acid, phenytoin and carbamazepine (medicine used to treat epilepsy)
  • thyroid medication like thyroxin
  • baclofen (medicine used as muscle relaxant)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally took too much of ANXIPAN CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose include dilated pupils, fast or irregular heartbeats, difficulty in urination, dry mouth and tongue, fits, fever, agitation, confusion, hallucinations, uncontrolled movements, low blood pressure, weak pulse, pallor, difficulty breathing, and drowsiness.
