ARICEP 5MG TABLET contains Donepezil which belongs to the group of medicines called Cholinesterase inhibitors. ARICEP 5MG TABLET is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderately severe Alzheimer’s dementia.
Alzheimer's disease is a brain disorder that causes dementia (a group of symptoms that affect the memory, thinking and social abilities of a person) by destroying the memory and other important mental functions in the brain which is characterized by memory loss, confusion, and behavioral changes.
Before taking ARICEP 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are allergic to Donepezil, have asthma, heart, kidney, or liver disease.
ARICEP 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have severe liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking medicine.
ARICEP 5MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women unless it is considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking ARICEP 5MG TABLET.
The safety and effectiveness of ARICEP 5MG TABLET in pediatric patients have not been established.
The most common side effects of taking ARICEP 5MG TABLET are diarrhoea, feeling sick, tiredness, difficulty in sleeping, common cold, loss of appetite, hallucinations, and aggressive behaviour. Consult your doctor if any of these above side effects get worse.
ARICEP 5MG TABLET belongs to cholinesterase inhibitor which works by increasing the levels of a chemical messenger (acetylcholine) involved in transmission of nerve signals. This improves memory and thinking. Memory loss in Alzheimer’s disease occurs due to disturbances of signal transmission in the brain.
Take ARICEP 5MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow ARICEP 5MG TABLET with a glass of water and do not chew or crush the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Stop taking ARICEP 5MG TABLET and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
Diarrhoea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Tiredness:
Make sure you take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol. Try to take ARICEP 5MG TABLET at a time when you can sit down (or lie down) when the symptoms are at their worst. Try not to drive or use tools or machinery until you feel well.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax and get enough sleep. Try to avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you are feeling dizzy. Limit your consumption of alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Indigestion:
Try to reduce your consumption of tea, coffee, cola or alcohol and lose weight if you are obese. Avoid smoking and do not eat three to four hours before going to bed. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Vomiting:
Try to take ARICEP 5MG TABLET with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
ARICEP 5MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy unless it is considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking ARICEP 5MG TABLET.
ARICEP 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking ARICEP 5MG TABLET.
ARICEP 5MG TABLET may cause tiredness, dizziness and muscle cramp which could affect your ability to drive or operate machines. If you experience these side effects, do not drive or operate machines. Consult your doctor before taking ARICEP 5MG TABLET.
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking ARICEP 5MG TABLET because it may alter the effect of this medicine.
ARICEP 5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with mild kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking ARICEP 5MG TABLET.
ARICEP 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease. It should be used with caution in patients with liver problems or hepatitis. Consult your doctor before taking ARICEP 5MG TABLET.
Do not take ARICEP 5MG TABLET if you are allergic to Donepezil or piperidine derivatives such as haloperidol, thioridazine, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
ARICEP 5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with asthma or long-term lung disease. Consult your doctor before taking ARICEP 5MG TABLET.
ARICEP 5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart diseases such as irregular or very slow heartbeat, fast heartbeat, abnormal heart rhythms, family history of prolonged QT interval (fast and chaotic heartbeats), had heart failure, or heart attack. Consult your doctor before taking ARICEP 5MG TABLET.
