ACNEDAP GEL contains Dapsone which belongs to the group of medicines called Sulfone antibiotics. It is used in the treatment of acne vulgaris (a skin condition that occurs when the hair follicles are blocked with dead skin cells, bacteria and sebum). The most common symptoms of acne vulgaris are pimples, redness, blackhead and white heads.
Before using ACNEDAP GEL, inform your doctor if you have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, methemoglobinemia (a type of blood disorder) and if you are using other products including cosmetics or medicines applied to the skin.
ACNEDAP GEL should be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding only if clearly advised by the doctor. Consult your doctor before using the medicine.
This medicine is not recommended for use in children (younger than 12 years of age). ACNEDAP GEL should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Consult your doctor before using the medicine.
The most common side effects associated with the use of ACNEDAP GEL are oiliness/ peeling, redness and dryness. Consult your doctor if any of the side effect worsens.
ACNEDAP GEL works as both anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory agent in the treatment of acne vulgaris. As an antibacterial agent, it works by inhibiting the synthesis of folic acid which is necessary for the growth of bacteria. Thus, stops the multiplication of bacteria. As an anti-inflammatory agent, it decreases inflammation and heals the breakout.
Always apply ACNEDAP GEL as directed by your doctor. It is for topical use only. Apply a thin layer of this medicine to the areas of your skin that have acne. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and mucous membranes. Rub the medicine gently and completely. Wash your hands after applying ACNEDAP GEL. Your doctor will decide the duration and frequency of this medicine depending upon severity of the condition.
Stop using ACNEDAP GEL consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
Skin redness or itching:
Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Avoid sun exposure or UV rays as it may sensitize your skin. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when going outdoor. Regularly moisturize your skin after consulting the doctor. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Skin dryness:
Drink lot of fluids. Apply moisturizer several times a day after consulting your doctor. Do not take bath for long time (not more than 5-10 minutes) and use warm water for bathing. Choose fabric clothes to wear. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Headache:
Use a heating pad or hot compress. Ease pressure on your scalp or head. Try taking rest in a quiet and dark room. Keep yourself hydrated and practice relaxation. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve or gets worse.

Before using ACNEDAP GEL inform your doctor if you are using other products including cosmetics or medicines applied to the skin, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, history of slate grey or blueish discoloration of skin, mucous membranes, lips and nail beds due to lack of sufficient oxygen in the blood (methemoglobinemia).
How should I use ACNEDAP GEL?
Use ACNEDAP GEL exactly as told by your doctor. ACNEDAP GEL is usually used on your affected skin twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Wash the areas of your skin where you apply the medicine. Gently pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Apply a thin layer of this medicine to the areas of your skin that have acne. A pea sized amount ACNEDAP GEL will usually be enough. Rub the medicine gently and completely.
