INTRODUCTION

ALERID D TABLET is a combination of Cetirizine and Phenylephrine which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-allergics and Nasal Decongestants respectively. It is indicated for the relief of symptoms of nasal congestion and allergic rhinitis.

ALERID D TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with coronary artery disease, impaired liver function and severely increased blood pressure. ALERID D TABLET should be used with caution in patients who have spinal cord lesion, prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), epilepsy and Raynaud’s syndrome.

ALERID D TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women only if advised by the doctor and it is not recommended for use in breast feeding women. This medicine is not recommended for use in children (below 12 years of age).

The side effects of taking ALERID D TABLET are diarrhea, general discomfort, abnormal physical weakness, rash and itching. Talk with your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen or does not improve.

USES OF ALERID D TABLET

  • Relieves symptoms of nasal congestion and allergic rhinitis

HOW ALERID D TABLET WORKS

ALERID D TABLET helps in relieving the symptoms of nasal congestion and allergic rhinitis where Cetirizine is a H1 receptor antagonist that works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger (histamine) responsible for runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing. It also has an anti-inflammatory action. Phenylephrine is a decongestant which acts by narrowing the small blood vessels providing temporary relief from congestion or stuffiness in the nose.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take ALERID D TABLET as directed by your physician. Take this medicine with or without food, swallow the medicine as a whole and do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of ALERID D TABLET for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking ALERID D TABLET without informing your doctor.

SIDE EFFECTS OF ALERID D TABLET

UNCOMMON

  • agitation
  • tingling or prickling sensation usually in arms, legs or feet
  • diarrhea
  • rash, itching
  • abnormal physical weakness
  • general discomfort

RARE

  • aggression, confusion
  • hallucination, insomnia
  • convulsions
  • fast heart rate
  • fluid retention (edema)
  • weight gain

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Diarrhoea:

Drink lot of fluids such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Skin itching:

Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Avoid sun exposure or UV rays as it may sensitize your skin. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when going outdoor. Regularly moisturize your skin after consulting the doctor. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

ALERID D TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women only if considered clearly necessary. Consult with your doctor for advice before taking ALERID D TABLET.

BREASTFEEDING

ALERID D TABLET is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women as it passes through the breast milk. Consult with your doctor for advice before taking ALERID D TABLET.

ALCOHOL

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with ALERID D TABLET.

KIDNEY

Dose adjustment of ALERID D TABLET is needed in patients having moderate or severe kidney disease. Consult with your doctor for advice before taking ALERID D TABLET.

LIVER

ALERID D TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with liver dysfunction. Consult with your doctor for advice before taking ALERID D TABLET.

ALLERGY

Do not take ALERID D TABLET if you are allergic to Cetirizine and Phenylephrine or hydroxyzine.

HEART DISEASE

ALERID D TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having heart diseases such as coronary artery disease (disease of the major blood vessels of the heart). Consult with your doctor for advice before taking ALERID D TABLET.

OTHERS

ALERID D TABLET is not recommended for you, if you have:

  • severely increased blood pressure

Before taking ALERID D TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:

  • spinal cord lesion
  • prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate)
  • epilepsy (fits)
  • occlusive vascular disease including raynaud’s syndrome (feeling of numbness and coldness in hands or feet under cold temperatures or stress)

Use in pediatrics:

ALERID D TABLET is not recommended for use in children less than 12 years of age. Consult with your child’s doctor for advice.

Use in geriatrics:

ALERID D TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult with your doctor for advice before taking ALERID D TABLET.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug–Drug Interactions:

Before taking ALERID D TABLET inform to your doctor, if you are taking any of these medicines:

  • monoamine oxidase inhibitors such as isocarboxazid, tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline, nortriptyline (used to treat depression)
  • digoxin, vasodilators such as hydralazine, minoxidil, beta blockers such as propranolol (used to treat heart problems)
  • pseudoephedrine, sympathomimetic amines such as xylometazoline (used to relieve nasal congestion)
  • theophylline (used to treat asthma)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of ALERID D TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Overdosage symptoms of ALERID D TABLET includes irritability, restlessness, palpitations, high blood pressure, difficulty in urination, nausea, vomiting, thirst, convulsions, confusion, diarrhoea, dizziness, tiredness, headache, general discomfort, dilated pupils, itching, sedation, sleepiness, altered consciousness, fast heart rate, tremor and urinary retention.

What to do If I forget to take ALERID D TABLET?

You should take ALERID D TABLET immediately when you remember. If it is time for your next dose skip the dose and follow your regular dose schedule. Do not double the dose to match up your missed dose.
